Poland Turns to Drones to Help Find Dogs Kept on Chains

Drones could become a powerful tool in the fight against animal cruelty, helping authorities identify dogs kept on chains in isolated yards, farms, and rural properties.

Equipped with high-resolution cameras, drones can survey areas that are difficult to access from the ground and help animal protection teams locate animals potentially living in poor conditions.

Dogs kept permanently chained may suffer from restricted movement, isolation, stress, and exposure to harsh weather conditions.

Aerial monitoring could help rescue organizations identify possible cases of neglect and respond more efficiently.

Poland has also taken legislative steps to prohibit permanently chaining dogs and cats, with the new ban scheduled to take effect in July 2027.

Polish animal cruelty laws already allow prison sentences of up to three years, or five years in particularly cruel cases.

For animals suffering out of sight, early detection could make a life-changing difference.
